Honestly the corners frustrate me both ways, front to back or back to front. What Grann of 6 said is how I do it too. I fold the corner and stitch into the inside corner and then pivot and keep stitching down the next side. That leaves the diagonal part of the corner open and I go back and hand tack that portion. Is that clear as mud? :-) |
I'd love to see a tute on your mitering method.
Can't have too many binding tutes ! That is not how I do it. I miter that corner by turning it inside out and machine stitch, cut the triangle point off, turn it out and press with the seam open and then stitch it down, no opening in the corner. If need be I will try a tutorial on it. It is really very easy, once you have tried it. |
This is the way my mother taught me to do binding :) It's the only way I know lol. I hear of people hand sewing the binding and I just scratch my head as to why lol.
Your directions are a lot clearer than the ones my mother told me over the phone that first frustrating time! |
You did a great job on your tutorial, I am glad I asked you, great job!
Congratulations! |
When you top stitch the binding in the front I am assumint that you fold your binding in half first. Am I correct

Omak is correct. I think I cut this 2 1/2" or 2 3/4" inches to begin with, then folded in half and pressed. Line up the raw edges of the binding with the raw edge of the quilt. Then your binding is 'double fold' and will last longer. I make double fold binding for all my quilts, even the ones I fold to the back and hand stitch. Thanks for asking. :-)
