Great tutorial! I like the idea of using denim. I will have to give these a shot!

cctx. 02-08-2011 11:53 AM

Thank you for sharing the tut, and it's a great way to recycle your bits/pieces of fabric. Great job too!

amma 02-08-2011 11:57 AM

Thank you for the great tute :D:D:D

Olivia's Grammy 02-08-2011 02:31 PM

Great idea. I don't mind binding a quilt, but I don't like binding small thing. I hang my potholders so I'll have to add a loop. Thanks for posting, it will go in my bookmark file.

klarina 02-08-2011 03:02 PM

great tute, thanks.

Thanks Butterfly Blue!!! I had just been wasting time on this board, trying to convince myself that I should really go sandwich this quilt that I'm making for my DGD's BD when i saw your tute. Aha! That's what i really want to do right now! So here they are...a pair of potholders i just made after reading your tute. Thanks for giving me a reason to put of the sandwiching until tomorrow!

Sandra-P 02-08-2011 04:22 PM

Thank you! I always wondered how to use the backing as the "binding" Great tutorial!

rosalyne 02-08-2011 04:24 PM

They would make awesome holders for the microwave dishes, regular pot holders are too big. they are cute!

Kaye-Kaye 02-08-2011 04:28 PM

Great Tute! Thanks for sharing.

Julianna 02-08-2011 05:19 PM

I made Valentines potholders for friends.

annette1952 02-08-2011 06:39 PM

Awesome! Thanks for the tute!

PattyS 02-08-2011 06:59 PM

Thank you so much for the potholder tutorial. When ever my hubby's jeans are too wore out to wear in public and are retired to the trash bin I will cut out the good section and save. So now I have a use for them.

#1piecemaker 02-08-2011 07:01 PM

Thanks for the tute. I've been needing to make some for a while now. You have inspired me to get busy.

DJ 02-08-2011 07:02 PM

Wonderful! Thanks!

sewwhat85 02-08-2011 07:17 PM

great tute

Butterflyblue 02-08-2011 07:17 PM

Kathy Kat - nice work, I love the fabrics you used!

Patty S - my husband's work jeans are so stained and faded when he's done with them that potholder filling is all they are good for! I wouldn't want to use them in a denim quilt where you could actually see them.

I love to give potholders as gifts because nearly everyone needs them, but no one ever thinks to buy any.

I laughed when I read this because I recently made my mom three or four. I was looking through her kitchen drawers, and I kid you not, she has potholders that are over 20 years old (I know, because one was a mother's day gift I made at school and it had the date on it).

Berta48 02-08-2011 08:15 PM

I love this but how do you hang it up, or do you just have to leave it lay on the counter?

grammysews4u 02-08-2011 09:52 PM

bookmarked thanks!!

juneayerza 02-08-2011 10:43 PM

Thanks for the tut. Since I really, really need new pot holders this will be a quick way to get some. Also, I think I will use the opprotunity to practice some FMQ on them since they are for me.

Thanks! I forgot to say that I had some Insulabrite left over so I used that for the batting. They turned out to be thinner than using denim and are very flexible but I worried that they wouldn't be thick enough. I used them last night and didn't burn my hands so that's good.
I have tons of denim jeans that friends have given me that I hope to make a couple quilts for picnic and beach use and a couple of tote bags. Now I know I can use some of it for potholders too.

Thank you for the great tute.

Thanks for the tute, great rooster fabric in your pictures!

sunkistmi 02-09-2011 12:38 PM

Wonderful! Thanks so much for posting.

I bet these are not as bulky as the ones you buy.......Thanks

Mamia 02-09-2011 01:17 PM

Thanks looks like a fun project.

JEM65 02-09-2011 06:57 PM

Great tutorial! Thanks - can't wait to try this one out!

TERESA77510 02-09-2011 10:46 PM

This is just what I have been looking for .Thanks

cherylmae 02-10-2011 08:09 AM

Thank you for this tutorial as I have tried making potholders and they just didn't look all that good. Now I can have good edging.

Michellesews 02-10-2011 08:49 AM

Great tutorial....now if I make 50 of these, I wonder if I can quilt them on the longarm? Hmmm, I will have to give this a lot of thought. You could make the mug mats like this as well....great tutorial, I will be referring to it again...and again, lol. Michelle G. in El paso

Well, as I do them, you don't hang them up. If you wanted to add a loop, you'd have to figure out a way. Maybe just tack it on the back? I've seen them done that way.

I have potholders in two places in my house - stacked under a cabinet and scattered over my kitchen table. Hanging them is kind of a foreign concept to me. :)

Thanks so much Butterflyblue those look so simple and I have a few "squares" of things that I can use. Would make Easy Easy Christmas Gifts too. Wow Thanks and I WILL show this to my mom. Is there a way that this can be emailed to me?

If there is a way, I don't know it. My only suggestion would be to cut and paste each individual post into a word document and then attach it to an email.

craftybear 02-13-2011 12:24 AM

thanks for the tutorial, I am saving it in my bookmarks

Annz 02-13-2011 09:39 AM

Very nice. Thanks

JUNEC 02-13-2011 12:21 PM

What a great tutorial - I have several UFO's I think I can use up using this method.

kriscraft99 02-13-2011 01:18 PM

I've been wanting to make some potholders - I love these, they have such personality and I like the way you show holding your binding in place. Thank you so much for sharing :)

Olivia's Grammy 02-13-2011 03:39 PM

I never can remember how to turn the corner up to make the miter corner. To me that was the best tip. Thanks. Trying to figure out how to include a loop. Think I have it in my feeble mind, just need to apply it.
