Some of my quilt blocks and some of the traditional quilt blocks use mirror images. In my Boston Blocks this means two blocks will have the same colors but in one the light is on the left and the medium on the right and the next block will be the opposite. The light is on the right and the medium on the left. To help everyone to see this process here are some pictures to clarify how this works.

the block on the left --the pink is on the right -------and the block on the right has the pink on the left.

Now sew the joined fabrics onto the bottom fabric.

Cut out the center with the template

cut out the second one

And you now have mirror image blocks

I learned this about your blocks very early on. So glad you put a tut in here. It'll save lots of people all the mistakes I made. But even though they are mirror image, they are still easy to make and so much fun.

Thank you so much for the tute. I really like the way you had larger blocks and then cut them down.

what are the dimensions of the quilt blocks?

The Boston Blocks are the size of the template you use. I used a 2 1/2" template here. If you use the 2 1/2" for all of the "Blocks" then your quilt block will measure 12 1/2" unfinished.

If you use a 1 1/2" template you will get a 6 1/2" quilt block unfinished

And if you use a 2" template you will get a 9 1/2" quilt block.

To get an 18 1/2" unfinished quilt block you can use a 3 1/2" template.

These sizes only work with a 6 x 6 grid or 6 rows of 6 Blocks in each row = 36 Blocks

No the tornado was in NW Iowa and we are almost in the bottom SE tip of Iowa. We did get some heavy rain and winds but nothing too serious. Just normal Iowa weather.

I've been through several tornados over the years. It is just something we live with. At least it is over quickly!
I can tell you they do sound exactly like a big train coming through!
