I take notes on videos to guide me, and I just wanted to share.

Four 6.5” squares:

· 1 dark

· 2 mediums

· 1 light

Layer dark to light, right sides up. (Line up edges)

On bottom end, make a mark at:

· 1.5”

· 3”

· 5.5”

Mark the same on left side, starting at bottom and measuring up.

“Connect these marks” using a rotary cutter, cutting an arch.

Refer to video.



Set smallest set aside.

Other 3 sets are turned face down. Take each piece and press ¼” under on shorter concave edge. (Small, Mediums, Larges)



Layer colors in Small, Mediums, Larges:

dark on bottom, lightest on top.



Start with center piece situated with the right angle at lower left and curved edge at upper right.

Layer first piece on that curved edge-overlap ¼”-topstitch 1/8” .

Continue layering light to dark . see video for technique.

Basically, orient last layer at upper right and new layer as a “smiley face”

Save last two arches to ensure 5” finished square can be trimmed. If not, scoot them out a little.

I made one of those. It was addictive and used up large amounts of my stash. Great fun.

how difficult was this to quilt, considering the multiple layers of fabric?

Thanks for the tutorial. I am amazed that you condensed it down so clearly. Before watching the video, I was intrigued about how the block could be made. I was thinking Paper piecing but how to make all those curves??? The video was very clear and with your tutorial should make this a piece of cake. Without the video, I would have made the arches and sewed them on as a curved seam. I can see how this is so much easier.

I followed these steps as a guide as I made a practice piece. I clipped the curve's SA, which helped in turning the edge. Thanks for the finished pic. I was just wondering how many blocks to make. Yours is a great size. And so colorful.

I did not quilt thru the roses. I quilted in the ditch between them in a grid pattern. I thought quilting thru the roses made them look less like a rose, I wanted puffy.

What a beautiful quillt. How much fabric did it require?

Angelika Ruf, I used my stash. But each finished square used 4 - 6 1/2 inch blocks. There's lots of throw away which is perfect for a stash buster.

Update after making 6 or 7: I trim the excess fabric after each piece is added, and I press the block often. Also, after I clipped the curves and press under 1/4", I starch the piece, which makes it much easier to place.
