I've had several people ask for a tute for the scrap bags I made in this post http://www.quiltingboard.com/picture...s-t238483.html . I hope it is helpful to you.

Great tutorial, now all I need is a file cabinet.:)

peaceandjoy 01-11-2014 03:47 PM

Thanks very much. I don't have a file cabinet right now, but am saving this in case I get one, as this is the greatest idea I've seen!

SewExtremeSeams 01-11-2014 05:10 PM

Thanks. I so appreciate your help.

Is there a specific length to the elastic?

I did not measure the elastic...just stretched it as far as it would go and that seemed to work.

Thanks for the tute...

goldbeacher 01-12-2014 10:35 AM

Thank you, I'm going through my scrap pile now, this would be great!

lillybeck 01-12-2014 10:50 AM

I love this idea. My husband salvaged two file cabinets from the trash, lol, we do scrap to sell. I will use this idea

craftymatt2 01-12-2014 11:56 AM

I think I missed something, so, are these bags for hanging in filing cabinets??? And, if so, how do you hang them???
Thank you for the tute and the help

caspharm 01-12-2014 12:15 PM

Thanks for the tute. Love your storage. I may have to try it out. I'm tired of all my totes. How much fabric can you store in each cabinet?

ItsJustMe 01-12-2014 01:34 PM

I just went up and counted how many fabrics I had in my fullest drawer and there are 43 with room for more.

QuiltnNan 01-12-2014 02:29 PM

you can also use one of the crates that have "runners' on each side for your file box....

MaryAnnMc 01-13-2014 05:24 AM

How very generous of you! Thanks so much. It's a fabulous idea.

ppquilter 01-13-2014 08:26 AM

Just went and checked out the quilted drawers and saw the scrap bags hanging. Wow Thanks

mumzer 01-13-2014 09:00 AM

If you have a dresser your not using or find one at a thrift shop just divide the draws then adjust your bags to fit. You can make them wider instead of taller.

grandmaemma 01-13-2014 04:47 PM

This may have already been mentioned altho I thought it would be fun to have the bags be same color as the scraps you put in it.

Greenheron 01-16-2014 05:53 PM

What a nifty idea....for those who don't have file cabinets, file totes would be a good place to hang these. (LOL, I could see myself needing a special fabric someday and attacking the scrap tote with scissors.)

Funny you should say that...I was putting the final pieces in a quilt top yesterday and just needed one more orange scrap.... As I was eyeing the bag, I found a small piece of that fabric. Might be a good idea to make bags out of something other than quilting fabric! LOL

CharlotteO 01-17-2014 04:30 AM

Just wanted to say that once I saw the original post I immediately started making these bags. I had a large roll of drapery insulation fabric, Plain white, So far I've made 13 bags and still sewing, and you will never be sorry you used it, it is strictly utilitarian. You won't want it for anything else. This post came at just the right time, as I was in the middle of a fabric store explosion down stairs, and I've got it under control now. Not finished mind you, just under control. I had already used the file cabinets for hanging storage, and was looking for ways to organize scraps. Thank you Dilyn. My sewing space is a bit more utilitarian than yours, but your idea sure helped. :o

frenchfryqueen 01-17-2014 05:54 AM

This is genius!

Thanks for sharing. I am in the midst of organizing my sewing room. This is the best idea I have ever seen.

I'm off to a quilting retreat this coming weekend. The project that I'm going to work on will not take all weekend, so I'm taking along your instructions and some fabric to make some scrap storage bags.

Aileen.
