Thanks to everyone who wants to try this. please let me know how you make out.
My foot was NOT included in my accessories when I purchased the machine, it was a separate purchase. |

I looked at the Janome G foot, and it is not the same as my SID foot. Yes, it does have the little metal 'tongue' but the SID has the metal 'tongue' guide much longer. I forget what the G foot is for, but in my book it isn't called SID. I searched Janome.com for "stitch in the ditch foot" and "G foot". It looks similar to the G foot, but doesn't have one side longer than the other. Hmm, I wonder if I've been using the wrong foot for STID and maybe that's why I don't like it? :?:  |
I just purchased the stitch in the ditch foot this past week and it is different the the G foot. Paid 24.98 - don't know if that is the going price at other dealers or not.
|
I did not know you could buy a foot for SID. I will have to go look tomorrow.

Hi,
I've used this technique for flying geese also. But I add 1 step to it. When placing the square on the rectangle, I sew a second seam. Then when I trim off the unused corners, my seam is already sewn, and I have a half square triangle that I can use for something else. I don't think it adds more than a few seconds to the process of making the goose block. CasaManana aka Vicky :D |

Wow, thank you thank you thank you nice tip

I loved the close up pictures. I just joined this board. What is the stitch in the ditch foot? Is it the blind hem foot? I have a Bernina and that is a #5?

There are some on ebay for the same price, only free shipping - but I'd rather deal with this company as I know it'll be a genuine Bernina foot and not a knock off. Best of luck to you, Karla |

Thanks so much for bringing this tip to our attention! I'd forgotten all about it, so ordered myself a Bernina #10 Edge Joining/Stitch in the Ditch foot before I forget again. Karla |

thanks for the tip

What a great idea! I love that I won't have to mark the diagonal line with a pencil on my fabric!

My mistake. I didn't read the previous messages. I have a Bernina Aurora 430 and both #5 and #10 feet; however, they are both identical, one foot is not longer on either and the metal bar in the middle is exactly the same on each. The only differene is that the #5 has a grove on the bottom of the foot. What am I not getting?

What a great tip!! I haven't used that foot yet and I have terrible trouble sewing a straight seam!
|
wow, I love that tutorial. I use mine for machine sewing down bindings. I just set the needle a little to the right and let that little lip ride right along the edge of the binding, and it is perfect!
|
Thanks so much! That's a great tute & going to find my SID foot to try it.

On 2nd thought, I'll have to look & see if I have that foot.Might have been thinking of a foot with blade on the side...Boo Hoo

On the edge of the mark....toward the center or toward the edge of the fabric?

Thanks for the info I am certainly going to try on a practice piece so when I do a quilt using flying geese I will know what I am doing. Thanks again

*Janome makes low and high shank machines..make sure you know what yours is, before you buy your foot..so you don't have to take it back. |
cool never thought of that
