The Tale of a Simiple Strip Quilt
 

Step 1 Gather scrap pieces together and cut down into strips starting at the widest width available. I began at 5" and ended at 1 1/2".
Step 2 Sew all like widths together end to end into one long strip. This looks like a 2" wide set.[ATTACH=CONFIG]609651[/ATTACH]
Step 3 Begin by laying out a mock up of strip placement, staggering the different widths. Notice there are long strips of the same fabric. These help break up the busy-ness of the top. Measure each strip to the desired length and cut.[ATTACH=CONFIG]609652[/ATTACH]
Step 4 Sew strips together until the desired width. Begin and end each seam with a backstitch to reinforce the seam.[ATTACH=CONFIG]609653[/ATTACH]

Step 5 After top is finished; layer, quilt, and bind. And we are done![ATTACH=CONFIG]609654[/ATTACH]

Love that quilt... and great tute! I love quilts made with shirts. They have their own charm. They are always cozy because the fabric is already broken in. You inspire me to hit my shirt fabric bins again.

Thanks all...I put Cuddle on the back as well as batting (it comes in 90" widths...perfect, I bought 2 yards and put it crosswise on the frame. It worked up very well...and it's so soft! This is for DGS#1 for college in a year and half. And he likes it! I decided to get started on college quilts as he's the first of 13 and soon to be 14 Grands. Will have to see what DGS#2 is interested in. He's the following year.

SBG, they are not shirts, but homespuns and a few flannels. But the outcome would be the same with shirts. Thanks.

Lucky DGS#1! Congratulations on the upcoming #14. I like the calming strips in it. I usually try to do that on the super scrappy/orphan block quilts.

I have actually started this quilt, but I didn't know it. Ha, ha. I have sewn a strip about four yards long of 2.5 inch width. None of the pieces are longer than 8 inches. (The 8.5 strips went into the other quilt.) And I have another few yards of 2 inch wide pieces. Now I can keep going; now that I know what I will do with them. Thanks for the inspiration !

Very cozy and good use of scraps

I love this idea. Scrappy quilts are stress relievers for me to make. I have lots and lots of scraps. I will add this to my list for scrap quilt ideas. Thank you so much for the pictures and instructions.

I have been wondering how to use all my varying sizes of strips. Now, I know and can really get several quilt tops completed very quickly. Yeah!
