Here we go. First of all I have drawn a pattern for you. There were too many areas where if i copied from the applique quilt I had just finished I could see myself hitting trouble.

Carefully draw round the design, taking each piece separately so that you end up with your pattern pieces like this

Carefully cut the pieces out. Take off the backing paper and placing the sticky side onto the wrong side of your fabric. Placing each piece on the colours you have chosen for your piece.

Do not iron the steam a seam 2. Place your iron on top of the pieces and hold there for about 5 seconds,

This particular pattern is fairly simple and placement of your pieces are fairly easy, however when you progress to more difficult designs, its easier if you transfer your pattern that you begasn with on to a clear plastic sheet, the type you hold papers in at the office.
Pin your plastic sheet over your design and draw with a permanent marker pen make sure you let it dry thoroughly. I have drawn my design on to the plastic sheet. Hold in place with pins. [ATTACH=CONFIG]15330[/ATTACH] |

Now take your BLOCK and place it on the table. PIN the plastic sheet over the top of it or if you like you can tape it down just on the TOP EDGE. You need to place your flower and leaves underneath.
Now make sure you have noticed that the stem of the flower goes underneath the edge of the flower. The Butterfly wings should be placed under the body. Place your smallest wing on first and then the larger over the edge of the small wing. I have carefully placed my different fabrics under the plastic in the correct areas. I had a bit of a hiccup and lost some pictures there.
Take your plastic sheet off and press your fabric in place with a hot iron. Make sure you do not iron but hold the iron firmly in place for 5 seconds on each piece |

NOW you are ready to hand or machine stitch your pieces to your block.
I use a blanket stitch, but you may want to use a satin stitch. Either work well but you must stitch them in place so they donīt fall off the first time it is washed. Here I have started to hand stitch the leaves. [ATTACH=CONFIG]15336[/ATTACH] |

OR you can machine stitch in place. Use your blanket stitch setting or a close satin stitch. TRY on a piece of spare fabric before attempting on your block.
I prefer to use a clear plastic foot on my machine for this so that I can keep to the outside edge of the design. Start on the first petal and continue round. [ATTACH=CONFIG]44839[/ATTACH] |

I have carefully machined all round each edge and the centre of the flower.
