I have had a number of requests to explain how to make the sewing table that was in the post here:
http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-107460-12.htm#2780292

I thought maybe it would be of interest to some of the rest of you. We started with a table purchased from Craigslist for $20.00. It measured 36X60". The rest should be explained with this. Hope this helps someone else get the sewing area they desire. Ann in TN

Thank you sew much! I missed the original so was glad you've posted this! my table looks just like that minus the wonderful insert!

Thanks so much for this. I had been trying to explain to my husband that thought I could adapt an old kitchen table that I have into a sewing table but couln't get him to understand what I wanted. Now he sees the light!!!

Thanks for sharing. I do love your room. I am in the process of trying to figure out a cutting table that is more sturdy than the one I have but can be easily moved. And still finding a better way to lay out my room. Maybe someday I will find a place where I can settle and know I am going to be there permanantly Then I can have a permanant room. :-)

Thanks for sharing. It's my hope to one day have a table just for my sewing machine...again. I had one once, lost it in a house fire several years ago and have never found one I like since. This looks very doable.

This is awesome! Thank you. I remember looking at your room the other day.....very nice! :) Thanks for the directions on the table. I so need one of these. I don't have the plastic insert though and my bobbin is on the side-not a drop in. So.....I would have to adjust for those 2 things. :) Thanks again for posting.

Husband also sends his thanks. He says that after patiently listening to my explanation, your pictures are worth a thousand words.

Who knew the "Mr." would be so popular with his table? LOL. Your room looks great!

fireworkslover 03-17-2011 07:42 AM

How do you get to your bobbin? From underneath or on top? I have a Viking with a drop in bobbin.

Sallyflymi 03-17-2011 08:23 AM

Thanks i bookmarked this one.

beachbum3263 03-17-2011 08:39 AM

Thanks so much. Hopefully now I can get my son to understand what it is that I've been wanting. :)

Thanks, I will have to show hubby. He is talking about making this type of table. I don't have the clear table so i will have to figure something else out.

if you can get a long table, you can mount your machine in a cut out sideways for you and your machine to sit in. or put two long tables together and your machine in the center of the ends, so you can slide your quilt through. or get a piano henge mount to the back of your machine cabinet and mount a piece of plywood with swing out legs like joanns cutting tables.

Thank you for the directions. We are about to embark on that phase of my sewing studio. What a help this is!

QuiltnNan 03-25-2011 03:54 PM

thanks

ncredbird 03-28-2011 04:34 PM

My bobbin is drop in from the top so it is not a problem to get to it.

I did consider the piano hinge option but I only had one wall for my table and access to the back would have been impossible. If I had sat it in a place where it wasn't up against a wall I would have done the piano hinge and raise the back.
