Paper Piecing – not sewing through paper – Prep: make number of copies of pattern req’d
1. Cut out 13 pieces of fabric for all of your 1 thru 13 pieces, draw ½ inch extra seam all sides of each piece.
2. Staple pattern pieces together – in 4 places , these papers will be used for folding and stitching lines.
Remove thread from your sewing machine, and remove the bobbin as well.
Stitch down each line, including the outside lines, these stitched lines mark where
you will be folding the pattern. Write Number, Color and Fold each line before starting to sew.
Sewing your fabric together without sewing through the paper pieced pattern.
1. Fold the line #1 starting at line between 1 and 2 on your paper piece pattern:
Lay #2 fabric on your table, place fabric #1 on top, line up the edge of the right side of the fabric, now lay the reverse side up of the folded pattern on top of both fabrics, and leave the ½ inch seam allowance on the right side of those fabrics showing, put pin to hold in place through paper and fabrics, now turn over the pattern piece – (Optional-then open the pattern piece and pin or stitch on line 1 – this will be the only stitching on your pattern piece) this holds your pattern in place as you carry on adding more fabric).
NOTE #1: Trim edges to ¼ inch seam, before trimming, make certain only those two fabrics edges will be trimmed off. Work on the reverse side when trimming.
ALWAYS have pieces not to be cut off on the left side, only the RIGHT margin will be cut off leaving ¼ inch.
OPEN fabrics 1 and 2 and Press pieces 1 and 2 into their position on the pattern.
2. Fold over line #3 beside #2 and #1 on paper pieced pattern.
Lay fabric 3 over 2 and 1 – check that piece 2 fills the space on the pattern, so when it is folded up it will
Fit properly in place. Straight edge needs to be beside stitching line #5, as the point goes into the corner of #4 and #2. Match up the right side of the fabrics and now stitch along the folded paper piece.
Trim off excess fabric, please refer to Note 1 before cutting off - leave ¼ inch - turn over and press into place.
3. Fold over line # 4 beside 2 and 3 on paper pieced pattern.
Lay fabric 4 on good side over 3 and 2 – make certain fabric will fill the space for #4, line up right edge of fabric and stitch along the folded paper piece. Trim off excess fabric, please refer to Note 1 before cutting off - leave ¼ inch - turn over and press into place.
4. Fold over line #5
Continue in this manner until you have finished with all the fabric being stitched in place.
Turn to the back side of your fabric and mark the ¼ inch seam allowance with a marking pen, that will indicate
Where your stitching line to attach other blocks together, trim off any excess fabric outside the ¼ inch.

Second Pic - need to stitch thru lines without thread, write on colors and number of each piece
Third picture - lay piece number 1 fabric on top (Navy), and piece number 2 below, leaving enough to make your quarter inch seam allowance, fold over your pattern piece on the line between 1 and 2 and that will be where you will stitch fabric 1 and two together - depending on how you cut out your pattern pieces, reversed/mirrored or cut out as it shows on your pattern piece, will determine whether you fold to the back of the pattern piece or if you fold to the front of the pattern - one way to tell is to see which piece of fabric has a point on the end or where is the larger end across. Lay your cut out fabric onto the pattern piece and see which way works.

This is a good pattern to play with and to learn how his works. Most important is to remember to check where is the point and where is the wider end of each piece. Pin your fabric to the pattern at the sewing seamline after you have sewn and placed your fabric.
