Lay your fabric out so the folds and salvage are vertical to your table. Lay a ruler on top. I used my 8.5" ruler. Fold in some fabric and continue to roll on the ruler. Tuck in the end so no raw edges are showing. Slide the ruler out half way, bring the raw edges together. Stack on shelf!

Nice trick, thanks for sharing! I will try this. I store my fabric in plastic tubs that roll under the bed. My commitment to myself is to not buy any more fabric if I run out of space.

I do the same except I use a 6.5" ruler. I can fit two piles in each square of my IKEA shelves with that width. It looks great and I can see everything.

I ruler fold on a 6.5 inch ruler and can fit 8 stacks on each shelf.

I fold all of mine using a 5.5 inch ruler. I also attach a one inch square of paper telling how much fabric there is on the piece. I store by color in 12 quart sweater boxes that are stored in an old bookcase turned on its side. I store large pieces on the bolt card boards that I ask for at the fabric store. My sewing room is neat, I know what I have and where it is. However, the scraps are a bit of a problem. They are stuffed by color in plastic bags in a cabinet. I am afraid to cut them until I know what I want to do with them.

Same here...I use my 6 1/2” ruler too.

I fold my fabric in half again lengthwise, resulting in about a 10 inch tall fabric piece. Next is to roll onto the 6.5" ruler. I use my 6.5 ruler primarily so that I can count the outward layers of the rolled fabric, from the middle out, & know within inches how much fabric is in the roll. I am not organized enough to measure, roll, then attach a paper I can't find the next time I want to use the fabric, so the 6.5" size is a better choice for me. My daughter brought me some dollar store hair clips a couple of years ago. Think of the old pincurl type. Now they are made in all kinds of fancy colors. I use those to secure the outward edge. It, also, lets me know quickly where to start unrolling from.
