love this method, have been doing it with layering fabric layered with iron on interfacing, right sides together. I mark the circles on the interfacing side because it's easy to draw on. I hate wasting fabric so i put small circles in the spaces between the big circles. Sewing is a pc of cake when then you can just slit the interfacing, turn and iron on to hold in place while you do the blind hemstitch round the outside... then, just like yours, i slice into 4 separate 'drunkard's path' blocks and then trim away the base fabric under the circle 'section' (the iron on will come away with the base fabric) ...they can, of course, be any size.

Default Drunkard Square Short Cut blocks.

I'm not sure I am reading your directions properly for the Drunkard's Path. I also use a mutiple method for the DP. I use a square 4 times the size I want the block to be, fold in quarters, Size then unfold. Make a cardboard circle for the curved center block with a small hole to match the center of the square. Draw around the circle. Cut out by the ironed lines (this makes 4 squares) then cut out the circle. Stack the circles separate from the squares and use those circles for another quilt with solids and the wedge for the circle. Works for me. The solids make very attractive crib quilts.
