Scrappy Quilt Using 60° triangles - Part 1
A few members asked me to post a tutorial on how to make the scrappy quilt using 60° triangles. I have not written a tute before so bear with me. If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask.

I don't have a 60° triangle ruler so I used the 60° lines on my 6 1/2" x 24" ruler. Any ruler that has a 60° marking will do.
Lay the ruler across the top of a newsprint page or whatever paper you are using to make the foundation pieces with the 60° mark about midway across the page. I used a 8 1/2" x 11" piece of newsprint. Use another ruler to line up the 60° to extend to the bottom of the page so the triangle is the length you want. Mine is 8 1/2".

This is what your triangle should look like. I layered 8 pieces on newsprint & cut on the lines with my rotary cutter. Cut as many triangles as you need for the quilt. Each strip in mine has 13 triangles. I have 4 strips. I needed 52 triangles. The first & last triangle will have to be squared up when you finish sewing the strips together.

I used strips 1" - 1 3/4" wide. Any width will do. Choose a colour that you want your first strip on each triangle to be. They should be fairly dark and in the same colour family. I used 3 different teal fabrics in the quilt pictured at the top of this post.
Place the first strip at the edge of the triangle & pin in place.

Place the second strip right sides together with the pinned strip & sew using a 1/4" seam. I like to sew several triangles at the same time because I press each strip as it is added. That way I can press several at one time then add the next strip. I just find it faster then doing 1 triangle at a time. (You can just finger press.)

Continue adding strips until the triangle is completely covered.

Flip triangle over & trim on drawn lines.

I pressed the seams open when joining the triangles.
Sew triangles together making sure the 1st dark strip on each triangle is at the top.
