Default And the Tale Continues

Remember my pile of scraps from this thread?

The Tale of a Simiple Strip Quilt

Although you can't tell from the photo, this was a random set of widths and short lengths. How do you utilize these pieces?
Step 1 Pick a short wide strip set. Sew a narrow strip set to each side.
Step 2 On the short ends add a same width strip. I was lucky and had 2 identical pieces that fit.

Step 3 Add random width strips to each side
Step 4 Do you see a pattern developing...like Courthouse Steps? Well let's change it up and add a strip on the top and right side.
Step 5 Add another set of L shaped strips to the top and right.

Step 6 Continue sewing to the top and right side
Step 7 Play with remaining strips to get an idea of where to place the final short strip leftovers.
Step 8 And now this little quilt is done!

I used a piece of cotton jersey knit as backing...actually didn't work too bad, but did cause a few ripples..not my normal choice of backing but a sure way to get rid of some fabric on a quilt that may get used as a camping quilt. The quilt was FMQ on a LA with what I call an organic zig zag 4 to 7 inches wide.

And no more scraps of homespun...the bits left over will be passed on to someone else. Good feeling to get these done!

Your wonderful scrappy quilt reminds me of the Gee’s Bend quilts. Lovely.

Thanks MKelly...I have been inspired by their methods, too..it's how my mother made quilts over 40 years ago. Hey my name begins with a G and I live in a valley...maybe I should call these Gee's Valley Quilts!
