Yes, I will take my time and oil it up. I been watching the videos and trying to find out as much about it as I can. When I looked at the birthday of my great grandma my head was spinning!! I figured her parents bought that...I just love it. Thanks so much for all your help and time to share your knowledge. I also posted the old singer I have, don't know a lot about it, but it was my other great grandmas. Not in good shape though.

jlamere, I'm guessing you may have already seen http://www.quiltingboard.com/vintage...e-t265625.html I'm thinking that the notched Domestic needles look like what is in the manual, but I DO NOT know.

I was hoping jlhmnj or Macybaby would pop in and tell you which needle this machine uses. Jon (jlhmnj) has a link to his ebay store (linked in his signature), or you could PM either one. I know Jon was quite helpful when I was looking for a non-15x1 needle that is used on modern and many vintage machines.

Janey - Neat people never make the exciting discoveries I do.

I have had it a while and it is in bad shape and pretty rusty. I will post photos of it sometime. I am super happy about getting this!! I have done a little research on the dates of My Great grandmas birth and death...She was born in 1873, so, I am wondering if this was actually bought by her mom!! I am not sure if she would have been able to buy it when she was that young or not. Also, what is the money value on this? It will never be sold, but just curious. Thanks so much for all your help! You are all very kind! I could hardly sleep last night knowing I have that machine! My family were farmers. I have one photo of my great grandpa, ggrandma avoided the cameras. I am going on thursday to get what a second cousin thinks is the only photo of her. Thanks again!
If Great GrandMa was born in 1873 and the last patent date on the Domestic is 1887 this possibly could have been a wedding present depending on wedding year. I'd estimate the Domestic was made from 1887 to mid 1890's. Fantastic to have 2 sewing machines handed down by the family.

She was married in early 1900's. Not sure of the date. I scanned a copy of her obituary, but some of it got cut off and that is what I am missing. All I see is 190..... I will have to go back to the cousin who is going through things and scan it again. I will keep that information with the sewing machine. Yeah, I am lucky to have them and excited to bring them back to life. I am not sure I can get the singer going, but after I remove some rust, it might start moving.

Chances are that you can find the vital statistics on your GGrandma on familysearch.org. If you know her maiden and married name and birth date, you're pretty likely to find lots of into on her. It's free, but I think you have to sign up. (Its sponsored by the Mormon church.)

You won't believe this!! I have found the original instruction booklet and it was written in German and English. It had a stamp of the store and address of where it was purchased. I looked it up and the store was open for only 2 years. 1890-1891 My great grandma was not married until about 1904. So this was her mothers sewing machine. I am so excited to have all of this! I printed off the information I found about the store and will keep it all with the machine. Pretty awesome...I hoped to find a receipt, but didn't.

I am still oiling it up and the hand wheel will not spin a complete circle. I think the bobbin will slide about 3/4 of the way to where the end is. It sounds like it is hitting someplace or something? When I loosen the nut on the hand wheel for the bobbin, the needle will still move...isn't that supposed to not move when I undo that?

Wow - Awesome - Fantastic So very nice to find that Excellent idea to keep info with the machine. Do scan document, too.

Can you get the shuttle out? Just be patient.... I know how hard that is. It looks like you are right that the needle shouldn't move when the nut is undone. It will probably need some more oiling, cleaning, oiling, patience, cleaning, oiling, patience, oiling.... you get the idea. As someone once told me, "it took a really long time to get it in the condition it is in, it will take some time to get it back to how it was supposed to be."

I'm really happy for you to be able to find the information you have and especially since it is a really wonderful heirloom.
