Default Help with 1920 singer

I purchased a 1920 singer sewing machine for $25.00, it has some sort of hand crank that attaches to the outside of the wooden platform but I am not sure what it is suppose to do, can anyone help me?

Can you post a picture? That might help. I grew up in my grandmother's sewing shop. A picture might jog my memory. mikkiwein

If it attaches to the outside of the box ... it sounds like a knee lever. They're L shaped, about 20" long, and it fits into a hole at the front right side of the box. It will store into the bentwood dome box top when not in use.
