Hmmmm, say what?
For the last 4 months or so I've been working on and learning about sewing machines. Mostly Singers of 66, 99 or similar models. I've developed the threading of the machines into a habit. Off the spool, around the little hook, under the bottom of the tensioner, up over the little hook and spring on the tensioner, down under the big hooked piece that moves with the presser foot, then up to the thread take-up lever, through that, down through the guides and to the needle.
Yesterday I finally got my new to me 201-2 back in it's cabinet and set up where we can use it. Threaded it and played with it a bit before going to bed.
This morning I decided to try the serger thread like I use with the little spring adapter widget I made and as I was threading it I went as usual:
Off the spool, around the little hook, under the bottom of the tensioner, up over the little hook and spring on the tensioner, then down towards the big hooked piece and ............. no big hooked piece. Hmmmmm, say what? Something's missing.
I said something to my wife. She came and looked. I pulled the face plate, nothing out of order there. I turned around and popped the face plate off my 66 and the big hook is there. Scratched my head and said, well lets check the owners manual and see.
Did that and found out there is no hook on the 201 like there is on the 66s, 99s and others.
Sometimes doing things by habit can bring you up short when something just doesn't work the same.
We got a laugh out it when we finally figured out I was running on auto pilot.

I have a Singer 9W too...that one I didn't have any problems with! The W&W 8 nearly tossed me on my head tho! I hate reading instructions....I usually do better to figure it out on my own...but that one made me read!
