Since I am mainly a lurker, I am late getting into this. Miriam (and many others) have taught me a great deal so how could I, another Floridian, albeit an
east coaster, not participate? The block will be on the way by Monday. Thanks both Rodneys and all the others in helping plan and put this together.

Miriam, our prayers continue and seem to be being answered considering Ashlea's rapid progress.

Managed to get my nine-patch in the post (airmail) this afternoon. Couldn't cut a straight line to save my life today....figured it out when I was tidying away....I had put my rotary cutter blade on the wrong side (IDIOT!). Nevertheless I managed to put together a reasonable block....extremely wonky siggy and a dog's breakfast of embroidery (thank goodness the back won't show if it makes it into the quilt). Anyway Rodney, here's my very humble contribution, I added the rest of the gumnut/blossom fabric in the packet in case you find a use for it. Everything was washed and starched so shrinkage shouldn't be an issue. Please don't judge all Aussie quilters by my less than brilliant standard. Can't wait to see more block pics and the finished quilt. Love, light and peace to all.

Thank all of you. No there is no such thing as a little stroke. Her's is classed as moderate. She is doing a lot better than they thought she would. My son found a place to rent in Naples near the re-hab for less money a month and all on one floor. The place they were in was in Ft Myers but second floor. The land lady is remodeling some of the new place so that is pretty cool. Ashlea is trying very hard to be her sunshine self. Yesterday my son convinced the rehab place that the 'inmates' should be making dinner or lunch type stuff instead of cake and cookies. He is a chef so he got in there, too and they made mashed potatoes and baked chicken and fed the whole place. He said she couldn't peel the potatoes but is isn't sure she's ever peeled a potato so he had her cut them up. He said there is a man in there who barely moves. Then his family came in with a birthday cake with 94 written on it. It may be her progress is because they are comparing her to the average age stroke patient. She was in good shape before the stroke and that is in her favor.

Singerguy all the blocks will be included. Earthwalker that block looks great! You (like me) are too hard on yourself! Neat flowers and I love the colors.
Thanks for the update Miriam. I think it's great Caleb cooked them dinner. He needs to be careful though. They may not let him leave.
Ashlea doesn't need to be little miss sunshine all the time. She's been thru a lot and will be thru a lot more before this is done. It's ok to cry if she feels like it. Same with Caleb. He's going thru a lot too.

Wow! What a thoughtful project! Unfortunately I will be unable to participate as I am out of state and didn't bring my featherweight with me (for which I've already kicked myself numerous times). However prayers for Ashlea are certainly included.

Miriam, the story about your son, the chef, getting in there with the rehab group to help them learn to cook real food makes me smile. Yeah for him! It sounds like he and Ashlea will be a good team as they travel along this path to healing and improvement. I am sure there will be plenty of struggles yet to come, but it sounds as if their attitudes are going to help them make the best of it.

Thanks Rodney, I’m not concerned. I was just having a little fun with the “quilt that out” comment. I’m having so much fun making my first 9-patch blocks, and first ever group participation, that I’m getting a little giddy I guess. Best wishes to Ashlea on her recovery, and tell her thanks for giving me an excuse to play with my antique 1901 Singer 27K2 sewing machine.

EDIT: I forgot to add. I'll probably use Ella (1908 Singer model 27) to treadle the blocks I'm making. The rest will probably be done on my Rodney machine-mainly because trying to do a good job on the bigger project while I'm still learning to treadle wouldn't be a good idea. I need to get more comfortable treadling first. If I screw up a block and have to start over, no big deal. The main quilt is a different story.

Dear Rodney,

In addition to the marvelous work you are doing in co-ordinating this, I am concerned that you will be left holding the bag with a large shipping bill (whole entire quilt!) and also your materials in the quilt backing, binding, and stuffing.

Not having made a quilt, I do not know how much this will cost you, but I imagine it is significant.

At the risk of becoming unpopular, might I suggest that everyone who sends a block might throw a few dollars in there, to help Rodney offset his out-of-pocket costs?

I will be happy to throw a bit in when I mail mine on Monday. And really, I was just thinking a few $1 bills or a $5, nothing big, just that if everyone throws in $1 or few, Rodney will not be left holding the (empty money) bag.

Just a thought.
