Some machine oil and a little work brought this little beauty back to life. Good for you for taking on this project, hopefully you'll be sewing with it very soon.

Interesting to see a machine that was manufactured the year I was born. I wonder if any of the sewing machines produced this year will hold up 57 years?

Thank goodness you rescued that poor baby. Now it has a loving home. Happy sewing.

Yes, it is possible to clean around the bobbin area. Go to my Youtube channel (see below - sorry, since the changes on this board you can't just click on it for the link) and you will find full instructions on how to clean a machine. I have done two videos, each 13 minutes long. Part 1 has had far more views than part 2 which makes me wonder why people don't watch part 2 - don't they want to see the end result?

If you unscrew the screw by the little ejector tab at the front of the bobbin case you can actually get the bobbin holder out and clean it thoroughly. If you find it awkward getting the parts out and back in, unscrew the needle plate to give easier access.

Let me know how you get on!
I just watched your second video - very informative - I will use your information on my vintage machines. One question - would you use lubricant on vintage machines with motors? thanks for posting these helpful videos.

Don't get any oil on the motor - smells awful...

Aren't you gald that you listened to her calling you? That is a great little machine, and it cleaned up well!! I love seeing what people throw away that are really good! It's a lot better than the newer Singers out there. People just don't know what they have.

Nice save Honchey. I wouldn't have given much hope after looking at the first picture.

If it doesn't have a cord it might not cost all that much more to buy a hand crank from sew-classic.
