Then maybe the pin is broken on the handwheel shaft. You'd have to completely remove the handwheel and clutch assembly to see if that is the problem.

Annette, thanks for your input. I will limp along with this machine for awhile-I don’t want to take too much apart until I have my main machine back from the shop. Ha.

Well crud. I decided to give this repair one more try…oiled metal moving parts. Gently lifted up black plastic arm, and the little piece of black that is on the machine popped off. It was hanging on by a thread. Boo. I can now only turn the flywheel backwards. I will do some searching to see if I can find a qualified repairman. Not likely in this area though. Sigh.

When the lid is off, the flywheel will only turn backward. Put the lid back on and see what happens. It should still turn forward.

Sorry to interrupt, but it looks like there may be some oil on the belt. I think that is a no-no.

I made sure the lid was closed properly and tried again…will not spin forwards. I carefully used a screwdriver to hold up the black plastic arm, and the machine stitched both directions (was not threaded or anything), so I assume the broken piece on the black arm is causing an issue.
I have emailed a Bernina repair shop in Amish/Mennonite area a few hours from us and explained the issues I am having. The shop comes highly recommended on our state’s quilter FB page, so I am hopeful they can help. Thank you for all of your help!
