Default Best thread for FW 221

I am wondering what the best thread and size spool for a FW 221 is to sew with? I find that when I use a large spool the tread breaks while sewing and I have no problem when using the small thin spools. Has anyone encountered this and is it a tension adjustment that is needed?

I just had that happen when I was at class yesterday. Next time i will try a smaller spool.

for one of my machines with a short spool holder, i put an empty green skinny plastic spool in the hole that seems to help keep it on the machine.

I've not had any problems with the thread breaking, so you might want to check how you're threading it and how tight your tension is.

I have only used Aurifil in my FW, and she seems to adore it. I plan to try a bunch of Connecting Threads thread I got for Christmas once my current projects move on.

there is a wooden dowel (not sure if that is how you spell it) you can purchase at quilt stores that will fit over the spool pin. I have used Coats and Clark cotton.
Today my granddaughter and I both quilted on FW's.

I primarily use Gutterman thread in all my machines. Superior threads are also excellent.

Mine likes every thread I have used. I cut a sonic straw about 4-5" long and put it over the spool holder and place my connecting threads spool on and never have any problems. (I am sure any straw would work-just like the red fat sonic straw. :>)

I use thread from Connecting Threads and haven't had any problems. I also use a thread stand.

The fw 221 is thread sensitve to serger thread I have found out but I use all other kinds. I have to work with the tension some times but for the most part they all work. I would like to read more if you have other thoughts.
