I am electrically challenged.

I just cleaned my ninety-nine cent spartan and cabinet and I was going to pull the motor and plugs out of the cabinet and clean those as well. I'm very confused how the electric is set up on this machine.

The components of my confusion: Motor, knee control, and other weird oblong dohickey.

The motor has two wires. One ends in a standard 2 prong wall plug. The other is split at the end with the ends soldered together.

The knee control has a thick fabric sheathed wire coming out of it and into the R side rear of the weird oblong dohickey.

The weird oblong dohicky has a wire coming out of the R side front that ends in a strange 3 slot outlet box marked with BLK - RED - WHT next to each slot. Another wire from the oblong dohickey comes from the left side and ends in a standard 2 prong wall outlet.

I've attached a schematic of the motor and the other cabinet parts. Note that there is NO connectors between the motor and any other component (got gas ... no accelerator).

I've attached pictures as well.

1) What the heck is the weird oblong dohickey (if for no other reason than to call it something other than a weird oblong dohickey)

2) I'm missing a connection somewhere ... I suspect the leads that are soldered together should be in either the knee control or the weird oblong dohickey.

3) What is the purpose of the plug that has BRW slots?

The "weird oblong dohickey" is the brown thing with a silver rim bottom and tan dots - located at the back wall, bottom of the cabinet

A Spartan is a Singer, the cabinet looks to be a Kenmore or White.

I don't know what exactly the "weird oblong dohickey" is, but the cabinet wiring as you drew it looks like a Kenmore or White machine would work in it.

The motor is the Singer coupler, two wires go to the foot controller, two to the wall socket. They are or were wired in the square bottom of the motor so it would work. The Spartan did not have a light.

The connector block with the BLK, RED, WHT slots would normally plug onto the motor of a Kenmore or White machine.

Your conundrum can be fixed, but from here I can't tell you exactly how to do it. You've got two different systems there.

If the Spartan fits in the cabinet, I would just run the cord for the pedal down thru to the bottom and the plug for the machine leave it so it can be plugged on top into the wall socket. Otherwise it won't work, because as Joe says you have two set ups there. The spartan is a nice little machine. I have one but no cabinet to put it in. sews really nice too.

I knew it wasn't a 'correct' setup because the motor plugs into NOTHING. Just two leads going no-where. The machine didn't come with a foot pedal, I'll have to pick one of those up. I didn't even think it was two different brands.

It also proves my husband wrong (bonus!) ... he thought the machine was fitted for the Spartan in the factory with extra blocks on two sides. I'll admit they did a *fair* job of matching the wood, but I knew it didn't come out of a Singer factory looking like that.

The wires coming from the Singer motor without the plug end should go to a knee or foot controller. Easiest to scrap the underside electrics and get ahold of a combination knee/ foot controller to mount in the cabinet or use on the floor. This to me seems the most direct.

That's not a knee "lift"...that cabinet has a knee control rather than a foot control.

Thanks all ... I decided to chuck the "White" parts and I just ordered a foot controller from Sew-Classic.

Maybe they were junking out a Kenmore. They borrowed the cabinet and then screwed the motor and wires onto the machine but lost the foot control in transport.
