Default Electrical current?

When sewing on my 301A yesterday it seemed to me I was feeling electrical current when touching near the presser foot. Not a shock - but as wierd as it sounds it just felt like a current of electricity. Have also occasionally felt same when sewing on my Featherweight. Is there something I can do to prevent this? Thanks.

Might put the presser foot on a static free pad like they use on computers.

I would get your machines checked out for shorts or electrical problems ASAP. I wouldn't even sew on them until that's done. Seriously, it's not worth messing with electricity or taking your chances. Take them to a repairman who's familiar with rewiring machines, not one who only does the standard oiling and cleaning.

It sounds like a wiring issue to me, too.

Also, if you are still using them 'until you get them repaired' - I would suggest unplugging them from the WALL when you are not using them.

Exactly, my Dad was an electician and you don't want to mess with it.

I have the same problem with several of our machines. The wiring is good on all, and new on one. Yet I get a slight buzz from them. This is more prevalent in the basement than upstairs. Some of the machines only do this in the basement, the others are more noticeable down there.
I do not understand this at all. Unless it's because I'm in an area literally surrounded by metal AC/Heater ducting. All of the outlets I use in the basement are heavy extension cords with self contained circuit breakers plugged into a grounded outlet.

I'd have the machine checked out too just to make sure.

Thanks for all the responses. I will get this checked out and it is unplugged for now.
