We wondered about that; the foot pedal is a Singer "Red S Mark" original part. The plug connection is original with the small plug head and no ground foot. I don't know how to determine if this unit was built as a portable or converted from treadle and installed in a case. Any answers out there??

I am thinking that she was a portable electric since she was made in 1949.

Very nice machine. How about Arleen, Bridgett or Erin for some Irish names.

My Border Collie mix, Moira, who is also shiny black in color will share her name. Your machine is a beauty.

I have this machine. And I love it! I have been sewing on it all day today. Enjoy!

During our mining days in Grants, NM, we had a Scottish family move in across the street and they had a daughter the same age as my youngest, at that time. Her name was Morag. We thought that was very strange, but over time, it sort of blended in, or in our minds, it did, anyhow. Her dad would often on week-ends come out wearing "the kilt".
