talk about an old sewing machine

It is a Willcox & Gibbs chain stitching machine & the chain stitch is just BEAUTIFUL. I have a treadle in my collection. They use a needle that is unique & hard to get, but you can find them on eBay.

Thats a beautiful little machine! I saw something similar in Country Woman this month in the antique appraisal section. It shows a pic similar to this one, but yours is showing that it was modified to have a power cord. The one in the mag has a hand crank and was originally sold as "A Singer for Girls" for $3.00. Ads stressed that it wasn't a toy, but a teaching device. the ladies loved it though for its portability and ability to do the family mending. The model was sold from 1910 to 1950's...They valued the hand crank one shown in the mag for about $165.00 Its a cool machine though!
