DC was the current before AC, now days it runs off solar. I'm building a house and going to use solar and elc. So the house is being wired for both ac and dc. You can run solar with a converter to make AC.

They some on ebay, a clear aycrlic and a wooden one, also there is a guy on here who makes wooden ones. I'm going to get one of his when my house and studio are done this spring. I like his much better then the ones on ebay.

I think, after a long time, I can join the FW club. I inherited my mother's FW 12 years ago. I finally found the bobbin case after I thought it was lost of all eternity. She needs a new spindle plate and a good cleaning, but otherwise, she is fine. She's a black 221 and I think she's from 1949. Once I get her up and running, I'll use her probably as my primary piecing machine. I will post pictures when I get home. All my machines are named after her sisters. If I can finish my collection of vintage machines, mom and all her sisters will be represented.

I am new to this site and wanted to say hello. I have a Featherweight 221 and love her. I bought her at at an Antique Mall at the coast about 5 years ago and I did pay $325. It did come with a really nice original case (no keys), the original accessories box with all the accessories. Bobbins and the bobbin case, original manual and a few other little things. She is a FW Centennial and I think in good condition (very shiny and great decals). I had very little cleaning to do and she runs and sews like a dream.
I love reading about all your FW's and just wanted to say hello.

I'm so excited! I'm going to go look at one tomorrow, and likely bring it home. 
It's being sold by a gentleman who is liquidating his grandmother's estate. It's got the case, tray and "extras". When I talked to him, he said it had a lot of extra needles, a sewing gauge, a bobbin (maybe more), a couple of screwdrivers, the lint brush, and more stuff down in the case. Oh, and "some yellow things". :lol Not a clue what they might be, but I'll find out tomorrow!
I asked him if he knew how old it was, and said if he'd done it right, he'd dated it on ISMACS to 1942. It does work, the wiring is sound (he says) but it's been sitting for 25 years or so, and could probably stand a good oiling.
