Are the sewing machine needles required by Featherweights different from the standard sewing machine needles used today? I know the bobbins are different.

Nope, Featherweights use the regular old 15x1 needles. On in Singer vernacular 2020s.

But remember, they go flat to the left, and thread right to left.

Can any of the schmetz needles be used in a FW or Singer 15-90?

The brand of needle has no bearing on it. Schmetz makes the standard needles by the tons.

The # 130/705H you see on the Schmetz pack is just their number for that system of needle. Organ uses a different number too.

Okay. I have the "proper" needle and I have followed the threading diagram (and am threading the needle from right to left). I have put the Bobbin in the bobbin case with the thread "travelling" in the same direction as the diagram in the manual...any other reasons why I'm getting a thread jam?

Are you holding the needle and bobbin thread while you take t he first few stitches? Also, starting with the needle bar in the highest position helps avoid thread jams in FWs according to my OSMG.
