    Finally! She's mine.... all mine!

I have been watching and waiting for years to get one... and I probably paid too much... but I already love her. Meet Miriam. (That was my mom's middle name... she passed away a little over two years ago.)

She's got a few scratches, has a replacement (gray color) pedal and her case is kinda smelly, but she sews like a charm!

Now I need to go and search out all the threads on how to take good care of her... that should take me quite a while.

Congratulations! What year is Miriam? I got mine a few months ago & named her Rose - she was built in 1937. Aren't they wonderful machines?

Aren't they just adorable? I really don't use mine much but love seeing it on display in our bedroom.

She's beautiful! I'm sorry about losing your Mom! I know what that's like, having lost both my parents within 4 months of each other! Just treasure your memories of the good times you spent together! I know both my parents are with the Lord, but I still miss them, and it's been 15 years +!

The decals are in wonderful condition!

Thanks everyone! My machine is dated 1951, which makes her older than me. I'd better obey her every wish since she is my "elder". She has the centennial badge too.

She is beautiful. Have you made anything yet? FWs can't be beat for piecing--my absolute favorite of all the machines I have, when I am piecing, I'll go to one of my trusty FWs. That 1/4" seam just fits without using the extra foot or any other kind of calculation.
Make every day count for something!

My Dottie [for my Mom] is a 1949. Some of the smell comes from the felt oil catcher. I bought a quarter yard of wool felt, and I could make at least 6. Just trace and replace.

all the cases smell as far as I've heard. I read here the other day it may stem from the bottom cover where oil has pooled over the years.
I set my case out in the hot sun, lid open, for 4 days I think it was. I followed the sun around the house like a chicken after a grasshopper

I hope you love and use it!
And the value of something is what you were willing to pay for it. So you did just right.

LOL... Love Kalama's comment about following the sun! I had read that tip on another website, so I will give that a try... unfortunately it looks like we are getting rain all weekend, so it won't happen anytime soon. I took her out of the case for now to try and get that "lovely antique scent" to dissipate from the machine, at least. I filled up the case with dryer sheets and newspaper because I had read about doing that also. I actually plan to keep the machine out on my sewing table and will be making a cover for her, so the case would just be used for transport if necessary. Thanks for the info on the oil catcher, I will check that out too.

Place a boxed bar of Zest soap in the case when storing it, with only one end of the soap box open. It will really help with the smell.
