Default Free No.5 - I got one too!!!!!

I brought this beauty home today from an estate sale! Free Treadle - the drawers were FULL of goodies including the manual & accessories box. $40.00! SO excited - she is dirty though - question - can I use sewing machine oil on the decals without hurting them? They are in very nice shape and I am just sick about ruining them. Also how do I date a Free? Is there info anywhere on the web for serial numbers? Thank you! Heather

I don't know how to date the Free machines, other than to guess.

YES!! You can use sewing machine oil to clean her...be aware that it can be a long, slow process, but it's the safest way to clean!

Thank you Charlee - I will be sure and take my time about it. I feel so fortunate to have found it - its just amazing lol. So many cool goodies in those drawers. I need to get the rubber tire for the bobbin winder and new belt for it. The bobbin winder is covered in rust - so I have some work to do. She also smells musty - any recommends for that? Going to go do some work on her - hope I can sleep tonight lol.

Dan & Windblown - Thanks so much!!! Yes - I can't believe what great shape they are in - I feel like a kid at Christmas! My husband thinks I'm insane - two treadles in one week. I think I have caught the sickness.....

Be Careful digging in the drawers! I've commonly found rusty double edge razor blades tucked against the sides. It is a treasure hunt- complete with buttons, garter clips, stamps, mouse poo- you just never know what you'll find. I've learned to empty the drawers into a bag or box Before putting a treadle in my car, since I had a mouse family jump out. I later spent $200 to have my ventilation ducts cleaned after a 2' nest complete with live and dead babies made my car reek!
