Default Singer 185J

Found a Singer 185J GREEN serial # AG182067 for $36.00 at our local Salvation Army. No attachments but is in a cabinet. Is that a decent price?

I just finished sewing two scrappy quilts on my 185, and i love it. I am sure you can get attachments on ebay for it. I would pay 36.00 for another one. cmaras

I have a portable one that I got for $20 at a yard sale and am happy with it. I use it for traveling. Small but not lightweight!!

I think that is a reasonable price for one if it is in good working condition, but maybe you could negotiate it down a little more. It is a short shank machine, so it is very easy to find attachments. As ptquilts says, those machines are not lightweight, so not ideal for taking to classes. However, the green color is awesome!

I bought one about 3 months ago and it's a great little machine. I love the colour. I only paid $15 but $36 is also a great price for such a reliable machine. I use attachments from my 99K and 15-91, they work fine. Sew Classics sell all the attachments for it too.

If it's in a cabinet then go quick and snatch it up! The 3/4 sized cabinets that will fit a 185 will also fit a 99 and this sized cabinet is hard to come by!!

The cases don't exactly grow on trees either.
My sister says those little 185s are a great little machine - she says they are right up there with the 99s. I bet if you put a finger guard on there some little girl would learn to sew on that cute little machine - some are tan and some are green. You know, if you aren't up to cleaning one up and for $36 you can get a nice clean machine, why not spend it? Where could you take it to get it cleaned for that?

Side note: The Singer 285s are not any good.
