Default I picked up a Graybar today

I need another machine to sit in line waiting to be worked on like we need to increase the national debt but, hey, you know how it is when you see a machine, especially one that isn't double grungy and is in a cabinet, which needs work big time (stripping and refinishing for sure) and is only $20, you do what you gotta do and offer them $10. When they say OK, you ask if the little stool goes along (with the attachments inside the stool) and it is another yes, you whip out that money and hurry out the door with the machine and stool before the person can change their mind. It was too late to really look it over but I did check in the store (quickly) to see if all the essential parts seemed to be there. Bobbin case, slide plates, etc. check. Wiring on the motor...no check there but I have a DH who is great at that kind of thing. Tomorrow I will look closer but I think the book, yes there was one in the stool, said R-40,

Comments? a keeper or boat anchor?

I don't know if it is a keeper or a boat anchor but they are a challenge. Give us something to do.

Hmmm, R40. I have a Damascus R40, made by National Sewing Machine Company. Can you post a picture? This is mine. Too pretty to be a boat anchor. She did go to the OSMG for a rewire. To me it was worth it.

That's nice! Interesting, too - I don't remember seeing a non-VS machine with that raised section around the needle plate.

Caroline, I was about to take photos but the doorbell rang and it got too dark by the time the unexpected company left. I'll try tomorrow. By comparison to your machine, mine looks like military issue. It is plain gray with the word graybar with a line under or through it, I forget which, on the arm. It has the crinkled finish...very utilitarian looking. Seems to me that I saw one on the board before...could it have been Charlee who posted it? Well, photos tomorrow.

This looks a great deal like my unkown (but likely National) Rotary A-same machine, different decals.

I know that Graybar is related to National in some way, although I don't remember the details. Is your new boy a crinkle? I know there are some Graybars out there that are. Post a picture-we want to see!

Took photos this AM first thing and then had to get busy bottling wine. Didn't get it all done...ran out of energy and bottles. Tomorrow is computer day for sure (to post photos).

Default A different Graybar

This Graybar is a bit different...more utilitarian looking. It had a stool with it that contained some loose attachments but I haven't had time to really look into the contents. Here, at last, are the promised photos.I hope the photos are OK as I am doing it a bit differently this time. The rest of the waiting line consists of 3 treadle Whites and one New Home electric in addition to this Graybar.
