Good morning! While the rest of the house is still slugabed, I have had a very productive morning, and brought home a LBOW 301a, with the short bed extension, half a dozen rusty bobbins, and what I think is the pieces to a zigzagger, or possibly a hemstitcher. (Plus a coffee table and two dozen *fresh* eggs. It's been a good morning. )

Anyway. Back to the 301. This came in a table, which I left for the seller, but it's got the bracket on the bottom, and the hinge pins fit into the bracket. Does this mean it will fit into any Singer table? The 301 card table? It took me a bit to figure out how to get it out of the cradle, but I did (finally!) get it out.

Pictures to come after I get it cleaned up. It's filthy, dry as a bone and loud as a result, but everything turns easy, so I think it will clean up nice.

It will fit in the 301 card table minus the bracket. No, it won't fit in all Singer cabinets. Go here http://www.ismacs.net/singer_sewing_..._cabinets.html and you can see which tables the 301 will work with.

But with the help of a handy person - cabinets can be modified. I bought a Japanese sewing machine and cabinet - set the machine out at the curb and had a gentleman cut out to fit the machine and with the cradle her was able to get it to fit perfectly in the cabinet and with a coat of primer and paint I have a new cabinet for my black 301 A. The only thing I haven't gotten to work is the knee control. Had new wiring done but the unit just isn't firing. Really wanted to use the knee control in the cabinet. Will keep trying to fix that feature.

Did you take the two little brackets that are screwed to the front edge of the cabinet's opening? The brackets are what support the cradle in front - each of them is held to the fold-down part of the lid with two screws.

Interesting about the cabinets...the one it came out of isn't any of the ones listed on ISMACS.

Oh-oops. No, I didn't get the two front brackets. I never thought about them. I'll call them tomorrow when they're open and see if I can't run out there tomorrow afternoon or Wednesday and snag them. Thanks for the reminder!

I wish we could get a picture of how the machine fits into the brackets - haven't managed that yet.

The cradle slides onto the hinge pins at the back edge of the cabinet and those are tightened with (darn I forgot the word) nuts - screws that have no head.

The cradle has two tabs on the side facing you, which lock into the brackets when the front lid is lifted and closed at the same time as the cradle is lowered.

The machine doesn't touch the brackets - it snaps down into the cradle, first into the handwheel end, then the needle end. It's *very* snug most of the time. To release it, unplug the machine, push down on the lever at the needle end and use the handle to lift the machine from the cradle.
