I'm not sure, either. I'll try them sometime today and report back.

I've wondered if the roller foot from my T&S would work on the 401, but haven't tried it yet. It looks like it's not tall enough. I'll try that, too.

Love this machine. It is a true workhorse. As far as attachments go: Check out these websites. http://sewingmachine221sale.bizland....re/page52.html and https://shop.sew-classic.com/Slant-Shank-Feet_c10.htm. I have ordered attachments from both places and been satisfied. I have tried the snap-on accessories but find I like the regular shanked ones better. Here is another website that walks you through cleaning, etc of the machine. Forgot the website. Here it is. http://vssmb.blogspot.com/2013/07/a-...al-prongs.html

Thanks for the links. After seeing that part about the cord I may just order a new cord for it just in case. The one I got looks okay but like he says in the blog, there's no way to see inside those holes.

Yes, the snap on feet work on a 401.

The roller foot does not. As I thought, it's not tall enough. I haven't figured out how that is supposed to work on the 778 (T&S), but not the 401. The zipper foot from the 778 is the same height as the roller foot. When I next dig out the 778, I'll figure it out.

I own a 401A I purchased in June 1959 from the Singer store in downtown Detroit. The manual has written instructions on how to sew a button hole. I have followed the instructions many times and the button holes are beautiful. Enjoy your 401A.
