Default Cleaning head of Singer Treadle

Last September I received my mother's Singer Treadle. DH has been slowing refurbishing the cabinet over the winder months and is close to having it all done and ready to put back together. It had some damage and needed a lot of TLC. Now that the weather is better here I took the machine outside and spent the day cleaning and degunking the mechanical parts. Everything is moving smoothly now and I just need to make sure I get all the WD40 wiped off and then oil it.

My question is: How do I shine up the head of the machine now that it is clean without damaging the decals? I know this has been mentioned before, but I can't find it.

Thanks for your time.

Overlander start by cleaning the head and decals with machine oil and cotton balls or old white t-shirts. Go easy. When cleaned to your satifaction you may wax the head for additional protection. If there is damage to the japan finish go to my profile and pull up my latest threads. I have a tutorial on repairing the clear coat on a vintage machine
