Default which model did my friend get?

I looked up the serial#, 10153231, was made in 1891. It has the puzzle box and most of the accessories, is a fiddle base, 4 drawers, wood pitman, coffin top. Got an extra shuttle and a few bobbins with it, needs a belt, veneer is peeling and the coffin has one corner cracked. A friend of theirs was going to put it in the trash.

most likely it is a New Family / Model 12

Pictures really do help us to be sure though. Singer did not keep one list for this machine one list for that machine. For example if Singer was making a model abc on serial number 012345 then 012346, then when they started making model xyz it became serial number 012347

Steve

The 28 did not come in a fiddle bed, only the rectangle bed. This is a full size machine. It is a 27-1 AKA a VS2.

Cathy
I believe it to be a VS1

Cathy, thank you. I saw the 127 and thought about it, but I did not see info on a model 27... back to my research....

I didn't mean for that comment after my name to go through. It is usually know as a VS2 or 27-1, not a plain 27.
