Default feather weight tension problem

I have enjoyed sewing on my fw, but now the tension isn't holding. I'll be sewing along and look under the fabric and see loops have formed. I have cleaned the tension part, but haven't taken it apart, as I'm not that sure of what I am doing...Does any one have any suggestions as to what is happening and can I fix it or can it be fixed? Thanks

Did you thread it from the right to the left? Is the needle in correctly? Is the top thread going in the correct direction? Look at your threading guide in your manual. If you do not have one, go to ISMAC.com and look up the free manual and print it out.

i would take out the bobbin case, clean it thoroughly with a brush, clean the area that you put the bobbin in, rethread everything and make sure the top thread is going correctly through the tension discs. see if that helps your issue.

if it doesn't, i'd try a different bobbin and see if that helps. sometimes even a little bit of loose thread caught in something can make a mess of things.

if it still doesn't clear up the problem, post again!

You might also have linty fuzz lurking around under there somewhere. I took a straight pin and went exploring in the area around the feed dogs and bobbin on mine and discovered that my cursory blow out every time I changed a bobbin had not been sufficient.

if you increase upper tension, is it better? (1-2numbers)

My go to person with questions about my FW is www.novamontogomery.com

Nova has Tips of the Month with an index that makes it very convenient to research anything you want to look up. You can also ask her a question on-line.

9 times out of 10 it's the top thread - at least for me.

Loops on the bottom are almost always top tension too loose (or not threaded into the tensioner all the way)

A good diagnostic test is to thread the upper with one color and the bobbin with another. The one that loops is the one that needs attention.
