What is this? This came in a mixed lot of attachments. It does not appear to be a ruffler, although it moves similarly by feeding fabric through as the finger moves with the needle bar.

although it could be an early version of the rufflers we know today.

Yay! That will make my sister happy as she has a singer 28 hand crank and a crinkle finish singer 128, so now she can add to their attachments.

I swear I scrolled through the whole list of attachments on that site and didn't find that picture. Gotta love the power of collective minds!

Oooo! Thanks again! I forget about Smithsonian library for SM resources. That brochure explains the old hemmer foot with the mystery screw in back and the plate that we couldn't place! She has a puzzle box too, so she will have a complete set if we can locate the hemming scroll attachments, which i had a chance to buy cheap a few years ago, but didn't know what they went to :-(

Yes, Geneva in Switzerland.
Please forgive my english, as it is not my own language.

I collect old Singer sewing machines, mostly Singer 12 and other pre 1900.

One of my machines ( a Singer 15, from 1906), came with this attachment.
I thought it was a ruffler.
Reading this post it seamed that it was not so clear.
Is it something else?

Unfortunately, a previous post got deleted. It is a ruffler. If it is like the one in the second link, you have to move the black part (interposing spring plate) up to have it work on the 15.
A Chinese manual with illustrations of the ruffler https://www.sil.si.edu/DigitalCollec...ges/image8.htm The one on left is for the 27, but the one on the right is how it needs to be for the 15. I have played with it on the 15. I don't remember if I actually tried it like for the 27, but I know that it did work on a 15 when the spring plate was like the one on the right.

I was kind of in a hurry, yesterday. Upon further research, I found better instruction manuals for the 'puzzle box' attachments.

Kind of interesting that the instructions mention the position of the spring plate for the 27, but not the 15.
