Hi everyone! Apologies, I imagine requests for identification help are posted daily, but I've spent hours Googling and don't know where else to turn!

Ive been gifted this parlor cabinet for an early Valentines present. I know nothing of it's history. It has been extensively restored it seems before I acquired it. Many of the screws and latches appear new. It has the foot pedal and wheel, and a single bracket which I'm assuming is part of the lifting mechanism for the absent machine. Nothing seems to have patent numbers apart from the bracket, not even catches or hinges (unless it's on their reverse). There are strange recessed wooden castors on the base. I've never seen castors held in by bent metal rods rather than the usual set up.

So, I'm wondering please if anyone has any ideas as to age and what type of wood it's made from? It would be nice to fit a sewing machine to it that would be suitable - is there any way of telling what brand may have gone inside it? I thought the foot pedal might be an indentifier (it has a heart pattern on it) but nothing comes up when I google....

Any assistance would be gratefully received! I'm not exaggerating when I say I've researched for hours and I've found practically nothing, and it's driving me nuts!

It is a beautiful cabinet. I wish I knew something but I don't. I would have taken it in a heartbeat. Good luck with finding info and a machine to fill it with.

Thank you It was definitely love at first sight! I just then had to sweet talk the partner ("now, its Valentines Day soon and I've seen this cabinet and I know you want to show me how much you love me" hahhahaa). It was actually in a thrift shop and it had a somewhat expensive price tag attached, but I have no idea if we paid too much or not... Not that it really matters to me!

That is a beautiful piece of furniture....lucky you! Even if you never find out anymore about it! When looking at something so handcrafted and ornate, I wonder what the original price was.....

Thank you! Yes, I feel very fortunate to have such a beautiful piece! I'm the type that gets bugged if I don't know the provenance though Yes, I wonder too about its original price - you would think that it would be expensive due to the detail, but then it has a very very basic set of casters. I'd say either they're not original or the piece is fairly old (but then it has an Art Nouveau influence which puts it at the turn of the century). Or possibly not from U.K./USA but somewhere with a more rustic style of cabinetry. I wish I at least knew something lol

Beautiful piece! I have my grandmother treadle (which I need to open up and photograph but it has an art glass lamp on it that belonged to my great grands and I hate to move it) that is in a beautiful cabinet. I seldom find any prettier but yours is prettier. If you ever want to sell it . . .

Yours sounds like a beautiful piece, and must be so precious to you with the family history attached! I've only owned mine for a day, so no plans to sell it yet I'm in Australia too, so shipping might be prohibitive hahhaha
