A few days ago, I brought home this lovely Pfaff 130-6 in a nice cabinet with the original tin of attachments.

The machine is in pretty good shape, every things moves freely, timing belt is in good shape. There is some crazing and a bit of bubbling in the clear coat on part of the bed and around the spool pins. I haven’t tested to see if the clear coat is shellac, if it is, I’ll try Glenn’s method to restore it. The decals are near perfect. The power cord is just starting to crack and the same with the wires to the motor. But, not so bad that I was afraid to test the motor for a few seconds. The motor definitely runs slow, so this is the first project.


I have a Necchi BU and couple of vintage Singers (201, 221, 99, 401A, 185J) and I’ve always worked on them myself. Honestly they are too precious to me to trust them to someone else and if I had to pay someone else to work on them I would have fewer sewing machines. With the Singers it is pretty easy, there is so much information on the web. Seems like there is a tutorial on pretty much anything you would want to know. I have spent hours googling the Pfaff 130 and haven’t found much more than folks showing off their machines. Not that I don’t love looking at pretty machines, but I was hoping to find a tutorial on rebuilding the motor. I know that sewing machine motors are all very similar and I probably don’t need Pfaff 130 motor specific instructions, but it would give a bit more confidence to be able to see the process with my exact motor. I can’t even find anyone selling carbon brushes that they say will fit the 130 or any information on what size they are. I guess this is my long winded way of asking if folks have any recommendations for vintage Pfaff resources (instructional and purchasing parts).

P.S. I have tried to contact the Old Pfaff Pforum, but with Yahoo groups closing down they are probably too busy to deal with new folks that want to join. Does anyone know if they are moving to a different platform?

There are a couple of sewing machine groups you might look for. As was mentioned, most all of the yahoo groups have moved or faded away. Those that have not faded away have either moved to facebook or to groups.io. I looked at the yahoo groups that came up when I searched for Pfaff. Most of those that moved to groups.io kept their old yahoo names. One that was active last month was oldpfaffpforum (no, that's not mispelled). Some of the yahoo groups moved a while back, before they were forced. One of those might be pfaff_fixit. Another group that might be helpful is called wefixit (they bill themselves as shadetree sewing machine mechanics), and I'm sure they moved to groups.io as I'm a member. Go to groups.io and search for those groups.

Another idea is to search for a group on facebook. I don't do facebook, but apparently everyone else in the world does. They have all kinds of groups. Some are pubic and some you have to join and be approved. Just search for Pfaff and pfaff 130.

bkay, you are not the only who doesn't use facebook, I refuse to go any where near it. I did check groups.io and the only thing I found that was Pfaff specific was AllThingsPfaff which I joined, but I think vintage machines are a class unto themselves, so general vintage sewing machines groups might be a better place to look. Thanks for info on the wefixit group, I just joined. It would be a shame if the oldpfaffpforum has closed shop.

I am another "I don't do facebook. I believe the moderator wants to take Yahoo's oldpfaffpforum to facebook, but many who have replied have expressed disapproval of that idea. I don't think a decision has been made. The Pfaff_fixit group wasn't very active and has way fewer members. So it will probably just fade away.

I hope folks can convince the moderator of the oldpfaffpforum to choose a platform other than Facebook. I appears to be a large active group. I know more people who have left Facebook in the last two years than those who have joined.

Thanks for the link. I find it funny that the manual for the Pfaff 130-6 has a picture of what I think is a 130-115 (I'm new to Pfaffs) for the oiling instructions. The holes on the top of the two machines are in completely different places. Though it was pretty straight forward to figure out where she needs oil.

I am busy working on my new 130 and can't wait to sew on her.
