127, 99 and a Union Special 14500

I visited a boneyard again and dragged out a stuck 127, a 99 with the knee control arm, but not controller and this bizarre Union Special industrial chain stitcher. I am guessing the Union special is missing serious pieces, but it will be fun to see if I can get everything it has to move again. the "thread" on it seems like small twine. Maybe for sewing seed sacks closed.

Looks like the 99 will clean up with out too much effort, rewiring is a bit of a fuzz but doable, and controllers either pedal or side compartment turns up.
I'm not sure about the other two though, your 127 looks a bit like a 27 to me, with the release loab on the tensioner? All that rust! |
I also think it's a 27 - the bobbin winder is on the column instead of the shoulder. I like that Union Special! It doesn't look too bad...

The controller that the knee bar should slip into is missing. But that's OK I know my way around 99s pretty well.
Thanks, I am sloppy in the 27/127 IDs. The 27 is cleaning up and the needle bar will move a tiny bit as I turn the hand wheel a few degrees, but nothing under the bed is moving yet. Bobbin winder will work and I go the slides off. Shuttle is in it, but I can't get it to a clear place yet. I suspect the feed dog area is where the rust lock is. |
I like PB Blaster on that kind of stuff. Opened the rusticled Singer I had right up.

From the original pictures it looks like rust is the problem, but grime have much the same effect on the presser foot lift. Lots of links involved? Either way the solution the same; spray can stuff and oil. Some cases are more stubborn than others, but I guess you know everything about it. I had to oil for 4 days in a row to get a machine to free up completely, and it was just slow and sluggish to begin with. |
Crankshaft is turning all the way around when disconnected from the needlebar arm. Not easily turning, but hey, it's progress. I have no idea what all that hardware under the needle is supposed to do yet. Part of the fun.
Tonight I'm takng it easy on a 99. |
