15 bobbin race differences

I recently brought a RAF 15 back to life. The bobbin race would not let the inner pieces spin. I took out the bobbin and case and started pulling out thread. Needed more cleaning so I pulled out the 2 screws holding the assembly on. Cast iron was loose, but the innards were still holding on for dear life. Hm, I grabbed my 185 to see how it was supposed to work. Oh no. This has a retainer clip on the outside. No answers here. I thought the 185 was close enough to the 15 that it would help. Nope.

Then I grabbed a Eureka 15 clone. The retainer was on the inside. Hmm.

by taking out the retainer screw and the clip while it was still on the machine, I got enough stuff to wiggle that I got it all off..A bit of a challenge. Just thought I'd post this for anyone else.

Pulling more thread out, cleaning and lube got it happy again.

RAF innards.

Leon, interesting to see the differences in bobbin races between the various models. Glad for you that the machine is happier now that it's thread free.
