1868 MOP Singer 12

I've not verified the date - this is what the seller said.

Here she is. This machine is quite small.

We removed the belt guard and bobbin winder, and took the cover off the base for transport - I can sort of make out the paint lines on the belt guard - I'm going to try to map them out for the whole machine.

The numbers - here you can see that the MOP is chips, this was made before the process to "cut" shapes was developed.

And the slide plate - this machine came with two shuttles and two bobbins

That is COOL. It almost looks like folk art, with the chips in their designs. To think it was made roughly 3 years after the death of Lincoln.

MOP? Don't know what that means....

Neat looking little machine!

And the cabinet. This was also disassembled for transport. I'm not going to put the screws back in at this time. At some point the old ones worked loose, and instead of dealing with the problem correctly, someone just got larger screws and put them in. Unfortunately the were also longer, and are coming through the surface.

Though that's rather minor damage, and the rest is in very nice condition. No damage to the veneer anywhere!

Ok- so it's solid wood. . .

The cover can be locked to the lid when opened - pretty neat!

This is the drip pan that is under the machine.

And some of the fun stuff that came with the machine

The seller told me the manual didn't actually go with the machine - but I had already figured that out.

MOP is Mother of Pearl - those are bits of polished shell stuck to the machine.

Wow, great score Cathy! Love those 12x1 needle packs too. ISMACS data suggests 1868 would be about right (they start at 1871 and your serial number is a few years earlier). The decals were hand painted, so you'd be well justified in hand painting them back on, if you can find a similar design for the colours.

Cathy, great machine! If these machines could only talk, what a story they would tell!

Beautiful machine Cathy! If I actually had any rules for my collection I would make an exception for that machine too. ;)
