1871 Singer Class 12 w/offset leg support

Went to an estate sale a few days ago. Bought a 1871 Singer Class 12 (New Family) fiddlebase Mother of Pearl w/Gilt treadle w/combination case fold down table top and offset support for $40. Only found 3 pics of the offset support on the web. Has the shuttle and bobbins. Has a piece missing off the front edge. Need a key. Finish is good and machine moves nicely. Will be cleaning and polishing tomorrow. Oldest machine that I have. I do have a question. The last pic is of the front where the corner piece is missing. Fix or leave "as is"?

totally green with envy... and you got it for a steel. Could you post a pic of the top/ box partially folded? It is a fascinating piece. I've only seen one other. I am surprised it came with a boat and a bullet shuttle. I would vote no fix, only original once.

Congrats to you.

that is a really nifty machine. Will you let us know how it sews after you clean it up?

Congrats to you.

I have an 1872 American Buttonhole and Overstitch that also has a fold down top. Here are the pics of the top partially folded. The second pic is from the back. The top is locked into an inside handle to keep it from flopping.

Steal. sorry. This was the similar one I saw. Thanks for the post of the partial fold.

Nice find! If you fix it depends on how you feel about the damage. I don't mind some wear and tear, it shows character. I have done simple repairs to glue down veneer to prevent major damage. I don't have the skills to repair the corner without it sticking out like a sore thumb. If it's stable I would leave it alone.

Thanks for posting! I always smile at the shuttle bobbins - just like Grandma's!

I also vote - do not fix missing piece.

I love it. It's so neat the way the table folds out so big. What deal you got.
