My cousin found this today, anyone know what it is or how to use it?
I thought it might be a hemming tool

It is the Singer Craft tool. Looks like it has the cutting blade on the end. It is used to create embellishments...wrap a fine yarn or similar around it, stitch down the center, I believe on to the item you are embellishing, slip the tool partway out, wrap some more, etc. It came with tissue paper patterns. I just found one this year, 1933 World's Fair edition. No blade on mine, tho.

I just got one of these too. They're used for making shag rugs by wrapping the tool with yarn, sewing to a backing and then pulling the tool back to cut the loops with the razor at the end. They can also be used to make fringe for clothing embellishments.

Congratulations, WIChix.

Actually it is a Singercraft guide. All one word - Singercraft. I have had one a really long time, but did not get the extensions until fairly recently. I used it to make fringe for a lion applique when my kids were little. I think it is sometimes called a rug tool.
A couple of sites:

Probably a bunch of youtube videos.

Kind of a fun tool.

Thanks. First one I've seen.

I would think that yours is very collectable, since it is from the "Century of Progress" fair in Chicago?? Isn't that where the Featherweight was introduced to the public and promoted? Maybe this version of the tool was available at the Singer booth at the fair. Great find!!

Thanks, Dayle. It came in a beat up box, with instructions, and most of the sheet if tissue paper patterns. The tool itself is in great shape, other than missing the blade.
