1954 Elna SuperMatic

Well apparently I bought a SuperMatic.
Craigslist deal.
No accessories - no manual - but did come with the case.
It's thread jammed and I'd like to remove the hook but it's not intuitive to me.
The manual I found online didn't address that.
Looking for any tips on getting it apart to clean and inspect the pulley.
Also will be seeking an accessory case and the bits and bobs to go with it.

I thought I'd kicked it. Haven't bought a machine in well over a year...hope this backslide doesn't mean I'll end up living on the street with an old dog.... pulling a wagon full of 50's clones while jabbering incoherently about oiling protocols. Again.

Well if it doesn't come up search Elna supermatic, bobbin case removal and then go into video. I'm thinking there should be more than one video so you may need to revise the search until you get what you are looking for.

Thanks Miriam!
That's exactly what I needed and it also addresses the pulley replacement!

Congrats on your Supermatic!.....I think......
It looks to be in good shape anyway.

It is nice. I got the jam worked out without removing the shuttle case and it turns well but for the flat on the pulley.

Try Sew-Classic.com for a new rubber pulley. Very well priced and ships quickly.

Thanks Donna!
I ordered one today from sewingpartsonline. I looked at Sew-Classic yesterday but didn't see the proper tapered pulley. Meanwhile I used a file to turn down the existing pulley per the excellent post from 2012 by Candace. Now I can at least run it. That worked well but I'm not sure it will provide the "grab" that a new one will and hence the ability to work with thicker material.

Following the video Miriam steered me to I was able to take out the bobbin carrier so that's now clean. When I hit it with the air can it was like standing in a field of Dandelions that have gone to seed.
Oiled her up in all the right places...she now runs nice and as quiet as she ever did. Tomorrow I take the time to learn the bobbin wind and both thread paths.
This has been fun....I should get out that 31-15 I have in the garage from a while back and finish it....... Oh Oh....it's happening isn't it?

I needed to find that video since I have a little pink Elna with a self inflicted thread jam I would rather be working on my 16-47.

There is a yahoo group called Elna Heirloom Sewing Machines. The members help each other with issues and commiserate. It might be just the place to be if you own an old Elna.

I stopped by there last night and it did look good but couldn't see a link to "join".
