201 bobbins where to buy in UK

I want to get some extra bobbins for my 201. I bought the Hemline 120.07 bobbins which I read would fit the 201. Unfortunately they don't fit, they are too large to go into the bobbin case. I don't want to make the same mistake again and would be grateful if anyone could recommend some tried and tested bobbins available in the UK.

Many thanks.
Clare

You might try getting in touch with this guy:"oldsingersewingmachineblog". I don't know if this is a good link or not, but try it.

Clare,

Look for Class 66 metal bobbins. That's what a 201 uses. They should be common as pot holes since Singer made a gazillion machines that use them.
If all you can find are the plastic Class 66 versions, they will work too. They just came along years later when Singer brought out the plastic Apollo bobbin cases.

Thanks Joe, I think I might stick to the plastic bobbins for now, as I have some of those and they fit. The metal ones I bought were sold as Class 66 but they are just a bit too wide to fit. With luck they will fit in my Mum's slightly more modern Singer.

There are some bobbins out there that sorta look like Class 66 bobbins but are for another brand of machine. I don't know what they are. Then there are some Asian made bobbins that are just plain junk. Their sizes are inconsistent and they sometimes wobble to the point you can't wind them on the winders.

As long as it's a genuine Class 66 made to Singer specs it will work OK in your 201.

These are two of my favourite and reliable suppliers:

These are the ones I bought that were too big (not from this supplier but from a local department store) http://www.gursewingmachines.com/hem...ns%20&%20Cases. They were made in Taiwan.

I am tempted to try these http://www.sewingmachine-sales.co.uk...-metal-66k.htm from your link Quiltingaddict UK.

In the meantime the plastic will serve well.

Thank you everyone for your help.
