201 - Short Shank?? Where to get walking foot.
Since I ended up the proud owner of 2 201s recently, I had the one I won from Ebay (without a cabinet) to my daughter so she has something to put into the monster sized sewing cabinet we found at Goodwill when I was up there.
So before she started asking a ton of questions about how she's suppose to quilt with it, I decided to get her a walking foot. The problem is I've never seen a 201 in "real life". Does it have a short or long shank? Straight? And, I've looked through several of the posts for the name of the store when everyone buys their accessories, but I can't find one that mentions it. Can someone help me with that? Thanks . . . again :-) |
I believe it is a short shank. It is not slanted. When I see attachments offered for the Featherweight (short shank), they usually list the 201 as a machine that the attachments will fit. I would recommend April1930s.com for information on attachments for vintage machines. Her site is a delight, and she is very helpful.

Dayle is correct. All the Singer non-slant models can use short shank attachments. The generic walking foot you can get at JoAnn or any fabric store will work on a 201.

I ordered the low shank straight stitch walking foot from Sew Classic and got it quickly. I highly recommend it for your 201.

I also recommend reading about 201s and the attachments at Sew Classic, http://www.sew-classic.com/. Check out the blog for articles and the parts/supplies for various attachments, including a walking foot.
