222K Featherweight and 221K cream in color

I just have to tell someone of my great fortune, I went into a local sewing machine shop looking for a long shank darning foot. They didn't have the one that I needed, as I was leaving I saw a beautiful 222K sitting in a display case and commented how lucky he was to have that one, he said, I've had that for over 20 years or more. He then showed me the cream colored 221K. Me being a Singer lover I fell in love. We talked for a while and pretty soon he asked me if I wanted to buy them, I told him, that I could not afford to purchase either one. He called me the next day and offered the 222K to me for $1,000, and if I wanted that one, he would give me the other for free. If I had false teeth, I would have choked to death. Yes I managed to get the money and hot footed my way over there. I think I made a good deal. Thank you for listening!

Congratulations! Hope to see photos too.

Wow, you are very lucky you could afford his price. I had an opportunity to buy a white lightweight Singer in the late 80s for $250 and I couldn't afford it.

Macybaby 03-23-2016 06:21 AM

Congrats! That was a great deal!

Goes to show, never hurts to ask if you see a machine sitting on display in a store. I've picked up a few "store decorations" that fit my collection that way.

You must be a true collector. I have a couple of black 221s. I paid $20 and $50 for them.

lindaschipper 03-24-2016 05:40 AM

Maybe I have no sense of their value, but the price seems terribly high to me. Perhaps if I saw pictures it would get me to understand.

In addition to Steve's great instructions you will probably want to resize your picture and "save as" with a different name so you can have both pictures and know which picture you can post. I have an old camera and so my pictures start out smaller than most of the cameras in use now. I reduce a lot of mine by percentage as that is easiest for me, although there are other methods and the "help" section of this board also has many posts about resizing photos to post as evidenced by https://www.google.com/search?q=+res...ges&gws_rd=ssl

Janey - Neat people never make the exciting discoveries I do.

You found a 222 wired for American electrical current? Wow!!!! Those are super rare. And you also got a 221? Sounds like a great day to me. Congratulations!

To put it in perspective, I've seen the 222s go for as high as $1800 and white 221s as high as $600-800. To get both a 222 and a white 221 for that price, she scored.

The 222s are extremely rare and the white 221s are not as common as the black.

csharp 03-24-2016 10:02 AM

Bet you can't get the smile off your face. Congrats!!! you got a GREAT deal. I have a white/green celery/cream 221 and 3 black 221's...they are for my adult grand daughters...Love those machines, so cute and functional for piecing and sewing. I can never find a 222 that is in my budget zone. Enjoy.

222s aren't that rare, they just aren't sold as often. The only truly rare FW is the crinkle finish 221.

The person I bought it from, rewired it before I picked it up.

He has a crinkle finish also, I just don't like the finish. If I showed an interest I bet he may be convinced to sell it!
I'll visit him again, soon.

Wow! I'm impressed! I have my mother's 221. I know that back in the late '80s a friend of mine bought one for $400 -- & she thought that was a bargain!

Cari-in-Oly 03-27-2016 02:27 PM

I'll say it again. You scored. Nice machines.

Congratulations! You did get a wonderful bargain. My son got lucky about 5 years ago when he found my white FW -- he bought it for $50 at the Good Will Store, and it works great! I love piecing with it!
