3/4 Singer 15 Clone
 

I become excited about every machine which makes its way into the house, some more than others. This machine is one of the "some". It's a Japanese made 3/4 size clone of a Singer 15. I thought I saw one of these once on craigslist, maybe a year ago. I was visiting a local sewing machine friend who was cleaning out and offered it to me, how could I say, "No thanks"??

I found one picture of another in my searching, maybe there aren't a lot of them out there.

Is this the same thing, only with a different name? Someone brought this one to me to repair. It needed the springs on the upper tension assembly. Thrifty Farm Girl led me to the replacement parts.

Pictures can be so deceiving. To me the Elite looks like a full size. The measurement of the bed for a full size 15 is about 7 inches from front to back and about 14 5/8 inches from side to side.

This one too? Am I not seeing the 3/4 size?

If the bed is about 14 and a half inches wide, then it is a full size. I'm not very good at being able to see the differences between the 3/4 & full size machines, unless they are Singers. Sometimes I have to go to a spread sheet to double check.
Like the difference between a 66 & 99 can be seen where the stitch length screw is in a slightly different position on the pillar and sometimes you can tell by how far the decals from the arm go above the needlebar.
The difference between a 27 & 28 is the location of the hinge pins.

Thanks for the link Janey! The Aldens in that thread has a dial to drop the feed dogs, mine drops them from underneath. I don't know why I like it so much, but this one is going in the "Keep" column.

Joe, does it have a knob that gets turned like a Singer 15? Or is it something else?

A knob underneath very similar to a Singer 15.

Update: I have this cleaned up and in a base that used to have a 99 in it. I had to do a little woodwork to make this fit. The motor needed quite a bit of help, and the tension assembly needed both screws (one sets the position of the main post and the numbered dial, the other lets the check spring swing area adjust). Sews nicely.
