301 Bobbin Case: Does it need to be an original or will the new ones work?

I recently purchased a black Singer 301a sewing machine without a bobbin case. I have heard conflicting opinions on whether it matters if the bobbin case is an original or not. The price of the originals is extremely high, so considering a new one, but wondered if anyone has had any experience with the new bobbin cases for the 301?

Featherweights use the same case and there are a lot of FW owners who have no appreciating for the new cases.
I I had a machine shop I'd consider making new ones.

the 301 I had didn't stitch correctly until I invested in an original bobbin case.

My 301 didn't have a bobbin case when I got it, ordered a new one from Singeronline.com.
